Maru Mail is an open-source desktop mail client for Gmail. It syncs your mail to your own device, works at keyboard speed, and is also a gateway for AI agents — with a permission model built on earned trust: agents hold only what you grant, every outgoing message waits for your explicit approval, and everything they do lands in an append-only audit log.

Where your mail lives
Maru stores your mailbox data on this device and connects directly to Google for Gmail. Maru operates no mail server.
If you connect an agent and grant it access, Maru sends the selected data to that agent through a local socket. The agent or its model provider may process that data outside this device. Review that provider's terms before granting access.
What it does
A real mail client. Unified inbox across accounts, full-text search with operators, one-keystroke triage, bulk actions, drafts that survive crashes — all offline-capable, all local.
An agent gateway. Your agents connect over a local socket with a credential Maru issues. They can read, triage, and draft under explicit per-capability grants. They cannot send: every send request enters an approval queue that only you can resolve. The permission model is an open specification.
No telemetry, ever. Mail goes only to Google. Optional Maru Sync stores an encrypted vault that the service cannot read.
